I was originally trained in Therapeutic Massage at the Humanities Center in St. Petersburg, Florida and received my Florida license in 1998. Over the years, I have worked in a variety of medical offices and also in private practice.
My lifelong interest in natural sciences, gardening, and medicinal plants led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2003. After additional training at New York College of Health Professions in Syosset, I received my New York Massage Therapist License in 2010, and having completed their combined Bachelor of Professional Studies and Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, I received my New York Acupuncture License and National Certification in Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in 2014. As President of the Long Island Chapter of the American Herbalists Guild since 2014, I have been a frequent presenter at our monthly educational meetings as well as meetings of other groups such as garden clubs and the Herb Society of America. My primary focus is on field botany of edible and medicinal plants, but other topics have included: The Healing Power of Evergreens, Medicines From Your Spice Cabinet, Healing Holiday Favorites, Medicines From the Field Garden and Grocery, Herbs for Coughs and Colds, Medicine Making, Garden Planning, Plant Propagation, Organic Gardening, Recycling, Plant Physiology, Plant Nutrition and Nutrient Deficiencies, Garden Pest and Disease Control, Composting, Soil and Water Conservation and many others. I have studied and practiced martial arts, qigong, and meditation since 1984, and teach them as well, both individually and to groups. They are, in many ways, the root of my practice and the source of my abiding impulse to help people through the science of natural health. For all of us, regular exercise of body breath and mind, good nutrition, and quality preventative and restorative care are the fundamentals of health and quality of life. |
